We genuinely believe that each one of the items on this list is regarded as the absolute best on the market. We have independently researched, tested, and recommend only the best wire for chicken run and coop.
Let’s jump in, shall we?
YARDGARD 308302B
This isn’t chicken wire in the truest sense of the word (the links on this are a little bit further apart than chicken wire), but it is probably one of the most versatile options on this list, as well as the cheapest.
This Yardgard product is available in a variety of different gauges and heights, which means that you should be able to find the right option for your project, It is easy to shape too, which makes it even better for the task at hand.
It is worth noting that this product is, mostly, going to be best for a temporary solution i.e. if you have fenced off an area in your garden where your chickens can roam for a short while at the same time that you are building yourself something a little bit bigger.
That being said, most people report that this is going to be brilliant for when you need something on the cheaper side of things. It is going to be a lot more versatile than chicken wire for fencing off plants etc.
Chicken Wire – YARDGARD 308418A
This is another Yardgard product, and probably a better option than the previous if you are solely looking for a wire fence for chickens.
The steel on this product is ridiculously tough, and it has been galvanized which means you can stick it outdoors for years on end without it rusting, which is fantastic!
It is worth noting that this product is only going to be 3-feet tall, which means it is not going to be brilliant for any chickens that love to try to escape from the coop i.e. the frequent fliers. However, if you have chickens that wouldn’t dream of that, then this product is going to be wonderful for you.
This is a product that chickens, and other small animals, are going to find nigh on impossible to break. So, assuming your chickens are not frequent fliers, the Yardgard 308418A is going to keep them firmly rooted in place.
ORIGIN POINT 162450
If you want a chicken fence that is a little bit higher than the previous options, then this one will keep almost every single chicken inside the coop.
Most of them are not going to be able to hop the height of this, after all. Of course, it will also be a bit easier for you to keep predators out too. Most will not be able to climb the wire, let alone tear through the 20-gauge steel.
This chicken fence is available in 50-feet rolls, which means that it is unlikely that you will need to do any cutting. Not that you would mind doing it anyway. This should be easy to cut through, even with the simplest of tools. However, the shorter length means that you should be able to layout the simplest areas with no cutting at all. T
he shorter rolls also help to keep the cost down, and it ensures that you do not have a ton of chicken fence left after laying out your area.
The one downside to this product is that it does contain lead. This means that you can solely use it as a wire fence for chickens. You cannot use it to lay the ground near a vegetable patch or something because the lead will get into the soil there. However, for chickens, it is just the ticket!
GOPLUS HARDWARE CLOTH
Standing at 36″ tall (3-feet), this GoPlus Hardware Cloth is suitable for keeping even the most adventurous of chickens where they should be. This 19-gauge galvanized steel is nigh on unbreakable.
You certainly have no chance of any predators being able to break through this chicken fence. And no, it is not going to rust over time either.
This is pretty much a chicken wire that is suitable for use over many, many years.
This is pretty much the toughest chicken wire we have included on this list so far.
This cloth is ridiculously easy to bend. This means that you can easily use it as both a fence or creating a completely enclosed area (including a roof). You just need some simple tools i.e. the ones that you can find in any good toolbox, and you should be good to go with this bit of kit.
Some people do find it a little bit harder to bend at the start due to the slightly heavier than the normal gauge of steel, but you should be fine once you get into the swing of things.
MTB 20GA CHICKEN WIRE
The fifth option stands at a whopping 12-inches tall, but you get 150-feet of material. It is also a 20-gauge galvanized steel, which is pretty much impossible to breakthrough.
This has been designed as a ‘cost-effective’ option, with the hexagonal wires being evenly spaced apart, but not so close that predators will be able to get in, and your chickens will be able to get out.
This design actually makes it a little bit easier to cut too, which is just as well considering it is 150-feet in length, and it is unlikely that you are going to be using all of that once.
We think the only downside is that it is only 1-foot high but, in our opinion, this makes it more versatile. Not everybody wants to have larger height fences, right? If you want an affordable option, then this is it.
